Life is a series of ups and downs. As with a push-up, you are, at any given time, working so hard to get to the top -- or what you perceive to be the top -- for that endeavor. When you reach the top, you are elated, but you cannot live there due to the laws of gravity and the realities of life. So you descend back down but this is actually the good news: you are now ready for the challenge of the next push-up, either physically or psychologically. With each push-up, you get stronger because you have finished the one before. This is a metaphor for having goals in life and striving for something more for self-improvement. As in a push-up, we search for our balance which provides stability so we can tackle the task. So whether you literally choose to do push-ups or some other activity, just keep moving, literally and figuratively, and always keep pushing up.
Janine Pollack, founder and owner of Pushing Up Wellness, is a Life Coach and certified Health and Well-Being Coach, providing guidance to assist clients to find within themselves their motivation, momentum and commitment to live a well-balanced and healthy life. Tackled topics include exercise, eating habits, work/life balance, grit, and time and stress management. Janine is also an attorney in New York City where she lives. She is a frequent public speaker on various subjects, including wellness. Janine believes that we should always be “pushing up” through life’s challenges, both literally and figuratively, fueling us with joy, hope, strength and a sense of accomplishment, all of which are critical contributors to our well-being.
